“A Brazilian-born genius with a blistering voice." (JazzTimes)

Brazilian vocalist, pianist, and percussionist, Claudia Villela returns to the Bach to celebrate the release of her new album Cartas ao Vento which was listed as one of Downbeat's Best Albums in 2023. Growing up in Rio de Janeiro, Villela absorbed the sounds of Brazil: Samba, Bossa Nova, Partido Alto, Choro, Baiao, and Maracatu, as well as musical influences from all over the world. Based now in the Bay Area, we have been “fortunate indeed that one of the finest Brazilian jazz artists has long called the region home.” (Andrew Gilbert) A singularly unique singer, she has lent her five-octave voice to work with jazz luminaries including Michael Brecker, Toots Thielemans, Toninho Horta, and Kenny Werner.

Claudia Villela – Vocals, Piano; Gary Meek – Sax, Flutes; Jeff Buenz – Guitar; Gary Brown – Bass; Celso Alberti – Drums, Percussion
